BERMUDA – October 27th, 2008 to October 29th, 2008, six education professionals explored examples of innovative education programs to provide effective K-12 and post secondary education to at risk populations in the United States.
SWITZERLAND – October 23rd, 2008to October 26th, 2208, Third Secretary of the United Nations Permanent Mission to the Republic of Slovenia arrived in Philadelphia to learn more about the U.S. trade policy and its formulation as well as the role of lobbies, special interest groups and NGOs. She came to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program.
BOTSWANA – October 22nd, 2008 to October 25th, 2008, seven delegates from Botswana’s Independent Electoral Commission examined the issues of “Voter Education and Increasing Citizen Participation” while in Philadelphia. They learnt about the U.S. electoral system and increasing citizen participation in the election process.
BRAZIL – October 8th, 2008 to October 11th, 2008, a group of ten criminal prosecutors from the State Attorney’s Offices of the States of Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro interested in current legislation and practices concerning the combating of money laundering and associated criminal activities stayed in Philadelphia for three days. They will learn about investigation and detection techniques, as well as bilateral and international law enforcement cooperation against international criminal organizations.
RUSSIA – October 1st, 2008 to October 4th, 2008 , seven guests will examined various aspects of adoption process in the U.S. and explored the varying responsibilities between federal and state government and their role in international adoption policies. The visitors from Russia were the Guests of Honor at IVC’s First Thursday reception.
MULTI-REGIONAL PROJECT – September 30th, 2008 to October 2nd, 2008, a twenty-participant group representing these sixteen countries: Argentina, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Montenegro, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, and Syria arrived in Philadelphia under program theme Cultural Heritage Preservation. During their stay, they visited the Independence National Historical Park, Preservation of Archival Documents, Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, and the Amish country.
IRAQ - September 28th, 2008 to October 1st, 2008, eleven guests investigated issues relating to “State and Local Government”. Their program objective was to gain knowledge on the work of state and local government, effective strategies for addressing community issues as well as the U.S. foreign policy and the future of Iraq.
KOSOVO – September 27th, 2008 to October 1st, 2008, five Members of Parliament and community affairs representatives studied ethnic group politics in the U.S. while staying in Philadelphia. They examined initiatives to reach out effectively to elements of civil society and to grassroots organizations within ethnic communities, while cooperating to mutual benefit with other groups in the wider community.
IRAQ – September 27th, 2008 to October 1st, 2008, nine participants studied “Federalism and An Independent Judiciary” while staying in Philadelphia. Their professional meetings were with Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center and City of Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, among many.
UKRAINE – September 18th, 2008 to September 23rd, 2008, four Ukrainian education professionals and policy-makers examined vocational and continuing education in the U.S. and its role in the U.S. educational system and national economy. Through meetings with government agencies, professional education associations, academic institutions, and local business leaders, participants gained understating of current trends affecting continuing education and its impact on the U.S. economy.
PHILIPPINES – September 18th, 2008 to September 20th, 2008, a five-member group of media professionals visited Philadelphia to explore issues related to the U.S. Foreign Policy and Journalism. These guests came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Leadership Visitor Program.
GERMANY – September 16th, 2008 to September 18th, 2008, a delegation of Youth Party Officials from Mecklenburg–Vorpommern examined issues relating to 2008 U.S. Elections with special focus on youth vote.
MULTI-REGIONAL PROJECT – September 15th, 2008 to September 18th, 2008 – sixteen participants representing Austria, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, Fiji, Ghana, Haiti, India, Jordan, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Suriname, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe arrived in Philadelphia to examine issues of Promoting Tolerance through the Arts. They visited Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program, the University of the Arts, and participated in IVC's Conversations with.. panel discussion.
CHILE – September 11th, 2008 to September 13th, 2008, the President of Cultural Corporation of Heritage Identity visited Philadelphia to study the U.S. systems and institutions involved in American cultural heritage preservation and urban development and planning activities. The guest was invited to the United States undre the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
MALAYSIA – September 4th, 2008 to September 7th, 2008 , a community program coordinator visited Philadelphia to learn about non-governmental organizations management.
IRAQ – August 10th, 2008 to August 13th, 2008, a twelve-member group visited Philadelphia and examined inner-city issues, women’s leadership, youth activism, and strategic planning. Their professional appointments were with the Office of Emergency Management and Neighborhood Civic Associations.
AZERBAIJAN - September 3rd, 2008 to September 5th, 2008, seven legislative aides came to Philadelphia under program theme “The Role of Legislative Aides in Policymaking in the U.S.” While in Philadelphia they explored the use of research in the development of legislation. Additionally, they examined democratic electoral process at federal, state, and local levels.
FRANCE – August 21st, 2008 to August 23rd, 2008, two guests arrived in Philadelphia to look at Law Enforcement, Security, and Immigration issues. Their professional meetings have been arranged with the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians, National Constitution Center, Immigration and Citizenship officials, and other. All guests came to the U.S. under the auspices of U.S. State Department International Visitor Leadership Program.
CHINA – July 26th, 2008 to July 30th, 2008, a two-delegate group studied the topics in “Legal reform: Human Rights Law”. They visited the National Constitution Center, met scholars engaged in the fields of human rights and constitutional law, and observed U.S. trial procedures.
GAZA - July 17th, 2008 to July 21st, 2008 – nine guests were looking at “American Studies” while in Philadelphia. They took a historic tour, visited the National Constitution Center, civic organizations and attended the reception at the Lights of Liberty.
AUSTRIA - July 3rd, 2008 to July 8th, 2008, a guest from Austria came to Philadelphia to look at city government about multi-culturalism, neighborhood community policing, ethnic neighborhoods, church groups and presidential politics. He also enjoyed home hospitality with an American family.
SOUTH KOREA – June 15th, 2008 to June 18th, 2008, three guests studied “Grassroots Democracy: Campaigns and Elections” while in Philadelphia. They looked at government accountability, civic education and the role of the Constitution.
INDONESIA – June 12th, 2008 to June 15th, 2008, a thirteen-member group of students came to Philadelphia as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Youth Ambassadors Program. They met with the University of Pennsylvania community, the Office of Ecumenical & Interreligious Affairs and other.
TURKEY - June 11th, 2008 to June 14th, 2008, six participants visited Philadelphia under a program theme “Energy Management and Security”. Their professional appointments have been scheduled with PECO, North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Jersey Atlantic Wind Farm.
GUATEMALA – June 5th, 2008 to June 8th, 2008, eight participants came to Philadelphia to look at “Education Reform”. These participants were invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
CHILE – June 4th, 2008 to June 6th, 2008, two guests visited Philadelphia to under program theme “Problem Solving Courts”. They had appointments at the Criminal Justice Center and Juvenile Court.
CENTRAL AMERICA PROJECT– June 19th, 2008 to June 20th, 2008, a twelve-member group from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama came to Philadelphia to study “Anti – Gang Efforts”. They met with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, and 222 Corridor.
MONTENEGRO - June 18th, 2008 to June 20th, 2008, IT Manager of Electronic Database Holdings at the National Museum of Montenegro arrived in Philadelphia to visit the National Constitution Center and the Independence National Historical Park.
MULTI-REGIONAL PROJECT – June 22, 2008 to June 26, 2008, sixteen visitors visited Philadelphia under program theme” State and Local Governments”. These delegates, representing Afghanistan, Bhutan, Brazil, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Montenegro, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uganda, and United Kingdom, were looking at government accountability, urban and race issues. They met with Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations and Mayor’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives.
TUNISIA – July 3rd, 2008 to July 5th, 2008, our guest spent time in Philadelphia attending the Fourth of July Celebrations, visiting the National Constitution Center and enjoying home hospitality with an American family!
CHINA - June 28th, 2008 to July 1st, 2008, two visitors, interested in “International Affairs, Government and Media” visited Philadelphia. Their official appointments were with the National Constitution Center and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
REGIONAL PROJECT- – May 31st, 2008 to June 5th, 2008, fourteen delegates representing Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela, studied topics relating to Good Governance. They had meetings at the Committee of Seventy, City Year Greater Philadelphia, and the Center City District.
GEORGIA – May 28th, 2008 to May 30th, 2008, a five-member group came tp Philadelphia to explore issues of “Liberal Arts Higher Education in the U.S". Their professional appointments were scheduled with Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, Temple University and other.
LATIN AMERICA- May 18th 2008 to May 21st, 2008, eight delegates were exploring the issues of “Energy Policy and Security in the Western Hemisphere” while in Philadelphia. These participants were invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
IRAQ – May 6, 2008 to May 9, 2008, Mayor of Mosul visited Philadelphia and met with official guests. You will have a chance to meet the Mayor at IVC’s First Wednesday reception.
PHILIPPINES – May 8th, 2008 to May 11th, 2008, a guest from Philippines came to Philadelphia to look at human trafficking. She also stopped in Atlantic City.
TURKEY – May 6th, 200 to May 8th, 2008, two delegates were looking at the “U.S. Foreign Policy Formulation”. They visited the Foreign Policy Research Institute, Turkish Student Association and the Middle East Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
AFRICA REGIONAL – May 4th 2008 to May 7th, 2008, nine representatives from various African countries spent their time visiting Philadelphia’s religious institutions. Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, Jewish Community Relations Council, and Office of Ecumenical & Inter-religion Affairs, were just few institutions where the State Department’s guests stopped.
BRAZIL - April 26, 2008 to April 30, 2008, two guests were exploring issues of “Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable development”. They stopped in the Rodale Institute and an organic farm.
INDONESIA – April 26th, 2008 to April 29th, 2008, a representative of the Subdivision of Regional Development, Directorate General of Regional Development in the Ministry of Home Affairs spent time in Philadelphia sightseeing and getting to know American beginnings.
ISRAEL – April 23, 2008 to April 26, 2008, two delegates studied topics in Civic Education and Democratic Values. While in Philadelphia, they visited the Independence Charter School, student organizations, and the National Constitution Center.
ANGOLA / MOZAMBIQUE – April 22nd, 2008, four guests from two states focused on the issues of grassroots democracy and good governance. Their day in Philadelphia covered Election Day Events, with visiting polling places and the National Constitution Center.
BRAZIL – April 16th, 2008 to April 18th, 2008, nine guests from Brazil came to the U.S. under the program theme U.S. Elections. They were guests of Delaware State Legislature.
THAILAND – April 12th, 2008 to April 16th, 2008, three guests were exploring elections and voter issues under program theme “Civic Education”.
RUSSIA - April 7th, 2008 to April 9th, 2008, a group of eight guests arrived in Philadelphia to examine issues of “American Studies and English Teaching Curricula." They were exploring the American beginnings and visiting the Educational Testing Service Center.
MULTI-REGIONAL – April 6th, 2008 to April 9th, 2008, eight visitors came to Philadelphia under the State Department program TESOL – American Studies and Culture. These participants were invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
MOROCCO – April 6th, 2008 to April 9th, 2008, Assistant Director of Information of 2M Television from Casablanca arrived in Philadelphia to observe American society and meet experts in politics and finance. He visited academic institutions as well as public access television.
CHILE – April 5th, 2008 to April 9th, 2008, two officials stopped in Philadelphia to explore the ties between transnational crimes and money laundering/terrorist finance and practical steps to enhancing cooperative investigations internationally. They came to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
CROATIA – April 1st, 2008 to April 5th, 2008, four-member group investigated “United Nations Security Council and U.S. Presidential Campaigns” issues. They visited the State’s Capital, Capitol Press Office, among many.
NORTH AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST – April 3rd, 2008 to April 6th, 2008, a six-delegate group arrived in Philadelphia to visit American Association of Political Cartoonists, Association of American Editorial Cartoonists and Pennsylvania State Newspaper Association as a part of a “Political Cartoonist” program.
MALAYSIA - March 9th, 2008 to March 12th, 2008, six Malaysian Islamic educators stopped in Philadelphia to visit various religious institutions such as Catholic secondary school, African- American mosque, and other.
SERBIA – March 9th, 2008 to March 12th, 2008, four delegates were exploring issues of the U.S. Independent Regulatory Systems. They were studying organ-donor programs and clinical and laboratory standards.
CHINA – February 14th 2008 to February 17th, 2008. Three Chinese delegates were addressing the issues of “NGO Development for Infectious Disease”. They visited the U.S. as guests of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
RUSSIA - February 13th 2008 to February 16th 2008, a ten-delegate group came to Philadelphia to participate in the “Improving Governance and Strengthening Measures against Corruption” project. They were exploring issues of anti-corruption and meeting with Philadelphia's transparency and ethics institutions. These participants were invited to the U.S. under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
LATIN AMERICA REGIONAL – March 6th, 2008 to March 8th, 2008, seven people representing Chile, Colombia, Costa-Rica, Honduras, Peru, and Venezuela came Philadelphia under the program theme “International Crime Issues”. They were all guests of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
ARGENTINA – March 5th, 2008 to March 7th, 2008, eleven young professionals representing Fundacion Universitaria Del Rio De La Plata ( FURP) visited Philadelphia and Harrisburg to take part in a program titled: “U.S. Society.”
RUSSIA – March 27th, 2008 to March 29th, 2008, five delegates came to the U.S. under program theme ”Civic and Ethical Values in Schools”. They visited Temple University Dialogue Institute and the National Constitution Center.
RUSSIA – March 26th, 2008 to March 29th, 2008, ten guests from Russia participated in the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program titled “U.S. Immigration Policy.” While in Philadelphia, they stopped in the New World Association of Emigrants from Eastern Europe and the Old Pine Community Center.
SERBIA- February 6th 2008 to February 10th 2008, three participants arrived in Philadelphia to take part in "State and Local Government and Management of Diversity in the U.S." program. They were guests of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
NORTH AFRICA REGIONAL- February 6th 2008 to February 9th, 2008, three visitors examined the role of civic education in promoting ethics, tolerance, and citizenship in a multicultural society. These delegates were guests of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
LIBERIA - February 4th 2008 to February 6th 2008, one of Liberia's dailies' managing editor, "The News", came to Philadelphia to visit local newspapers, Philadelphia's university media programs and printing houses. He was a guest of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
BELARUS - January 30th 2008 to February 1st 2008, four Belarusian professors and instructors of international relations and cultural studies visited Philadelphia to learn about American Studies programs, system of higher education in the U.S., and the American democratic process.
MULTI-REGIONAL - January 20th 2008, a twelve member group stopped in Philadelphia for one day to learn about the use of arts in reconciliation: mural produced by victims and perpetrators of crime.
SOUTH and CENTRAL ASIA - January 10th 2008 to January 13th, 2008, a group of eight participants traveled to Philadelphia to explore themes of U.S. Constitution and the Election System, grassroots democracy, challenges of running for office as well as importance of accountability for elected officials.
